Clean Green Rally Clean Green Rally Petition Boxes

Statement by John Bercow for the Clean Green Rally, Aylesbury, 12th September 2009

In my unavoidable absence today, owing to an unbreakable conference engagement, I am writing to offer a message of support once again to all of you in the SAVI campaign.

Over the last few months, I have been privileged to work with Helen Howard, Maggi Campbell-Keith and others in SAVI and we have all been united in our determination to prevent the imposition of a mass burn incinerator which would represent the greatest threat to our community in my experience or yours.

I have corresponded with the County Council on your behalf. I have written to every member of the Buckinghamshire County Council Cabinet to counsel them against lumbering local people with such a facility. I have spoken at two public meetings in opposition to the WRG plan. I have met the Cabinet Member responsible for this subject and underlined to him in the most robust possible terms why local people should not have to suffer this unwanted burden and hazard.

It threatens to damage our environment. It threatens to add hugely to traffic congestion and the incidence of noise. It threatens to pose a risk to human health. It threatens to make a landscape that is beautiful at present ugly in the future. It threatens to cost taxpayers dear and reduce our quality of life in the process.

Precisely because of all those threats, the plan is opposed by SAVI, opposed by no fewer than 20 Parish Councils and by a policy from Winslow Town Council and opposed already by over 25,000 residents throughout the county. SAVI’s e-petition to number 10 Downing Street is now the number 2 environmental petition nationally. That opposition can only grow. I share that opposition and I will work with you, by every legitimate means available for as long as necessary to defeat this proposal and safeguard our community now and for the future. Thank you and good luck.

John Bercow MP for Buckingham and Winslow

GIVE SAVI a HIGH 5

SAVI are now gearing up to raise money for a campaign fighting fund that will be necessary in the event that the battle against the county council's proposal to site a mass burn incinerator at Lower Greatmoor Farm, Edgcott, goes to the courts. If you wish to support us in stopping this development we are asking that you give SAVI a HIGH 5. £5 if you are a child, £50 if you are an adult, £500 if you are a householder and £5000 for those who can really afford to. In order to protect your donation SAVI have formed a company, limited by guarantee and have a proper business bank account, held at an ethical bank. We promise that if we don't need to use your money to fight this proposal and you would like us to return it to you we will do so. Any monies not requested to be returned and unused in the legal fight will be donated to local good causes to benefit local communities. We KNOW that this is a big ask but this fight may well go to court and we have to raise significant sums if we are to have any hope of succeeding. If this is important to you and your family please dig deep and give as much as you are able.It is to protect your family's health, the local environment and the value of your property, that you are investing this money. Any member of the SAVI team will be most happy to answer any questions that you may have which will explain how your money will be used, please contact us via our SAVI email addresses on the website. Please send cheques made out to 'SAVI' to SAVI, c/o The Open Space, Edgcott Road, Buckinghamshire HP22 4DE. Your donation will be receipted & acknowledged so please remember to attach a note with your address.
